SRINAGAR: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said Friday that J&K rejected Pakistan in 1947 and no amount of violence perpetrated through terrorist outfits originating from across the border could browbeat Kashmiris into thinking otherwise.
"Those who think they can bring Kashmir under Pakistan's control are mistaken. It will always remain with India," Farooq told reporters a day after yet another terrorist ambush in which three soldiers and two porters were killed along the LoC near Gulmarg.
Farooq cited conflicts currently raging in various parts of the world as examples of the futility of the strategy of backing terrorism . "They should see what is happening in Ukraine, Syria, Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon," he said without naming Pakistan. "Do they want the same destruction? Do they want to make the poor even poorer? For God's sake, stop this."
On violence escalating since his son Omar Abdullah became CM of an NC-led coalition govt, the Union territory's first, Farooq said the administration and the lieutenant governor had a lot of work to do. He offered to help in the peace efforts, if invited to discussions.
