A 45-year-old Indian-origin man, Prem Kumar , was charged with the murder of his estranged wife in Dandenong, a suburb in Melbourne's southeast. Daily Mail reported that after allegedly killing his wife, Anu, inside the Christie Avenue home Tuesday, Kumar put up several disturbing social media videos parading his young children.
In the video, Kumar asked his children to say 'I am Sikh Warrior ' and 'Hi everyone, I am safe'. In the video, he went on a wild rant about India, Africa, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, America, and Australia.
The video was posted hours after the accused killed his wife.
Kumar posted another video in which he led his children to a vehicle where he presented them with gifts.
Emergency services discovered Anu's body after neighbors reported hearing a thud and saw the children riding plastic bikes outside. Kumar was arrested at the scene and he did not apply for bail.
Not much is known about how Anu was killed but neighbors said they knew Anu as the mother of two toddlers, ages two and four. According to locals, the husband moved back to live with them a few months ago.
Homicide Squad Detective inspector Dean Thomas told Daily Mail his members faced the grim task of speaking with the two children to obtain their version of events.
"What exactly they’ve seen, we don’t know. Obviously we’ll do our best to speak to those children," he said.
"Their wellbeing is (our) number one (priority) and making sure that they’re OK and that they’re being looked after and provided support that they need. We will endeavour to speak to them, to see what they can say to us," he said.
"People should be safe in their homes. People should be safe in their relationships," he said.
