Watch: Trump turns up the trash talk, dances to YMCA in safety vest

Dressed as a sanitation worker, Donald Trump broke into his signature YMCA dance, delighting supporters during his rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin , in what was both a playful and pointed moment on the campaign trail. Sporting an orange and yellow safety vest, Trump pumped his fists and swayed to the classic hit, adding a lighthearted spin to an otherwise tense political showdown against vice president Kamala Harris , who held a rival rally in Wisconsin the same evening.

Trump’s rally theatrics underscore his bid to maintain a relatable image for his base, a tactic he’s used consistently, including a memorable appearance earlier this year where he joined the crowd in a YMCA dance at Madison Square Garden.

The image of Trump dancing, particularly in such a setting, has become a lighthearted yet impactful moment for many of his supporters, reflecting his ability to turn controversial moments to his advantage.

The former president’s unique attire and entrance—a ride in a garbage truck with “Trump” emblazoned across it—was an intentional nod to President Joe Biden ’s recent controversial remark that appeared to label Trump’s supporters as “garbage.”

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd, Trump criticised Harris’s candidacy, suggesting she was unfit to lead the country, while simultaneously seizing the chance to spin Biden’s words in his favour. "You can't lead America if you don't love Americans,” Trump said, calling Biden’s remarks “a disgrace.”

Beyond the theatrics, recent polls paint a tight race between Harris and Trump, especially in key battleground states like Wisconsin and Michigan. According to a CNN poll, Harris holds a narrow lead in Michigan with 48% support to Trump’s 43%, and a six-point lead in Wisconsin. However, in Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state, both candidates are neck and neck, tied at 48% each. Trump’s appeal remains strong in traditional Republican states, but Harris’s advantage in the Midwest has placed her in a favourable position.
