Southwest monsoon withdraws from entire Vidarbha with a surplus of 17% rains

Send Push

Nagpur: The Southwest monsoon has retreated from the entire Vidarbha region as of October 15, according to the regional meteorological centre.

Four districts experienced above normal monsoon rainfall (19% more than average), while the remaining seven districts, including Nagpur, had normal monsoon conditions.

On two occasions, the district was inundated with heavy to very heavy rainfall, leaving the entire city waterlogged, yet many reservoirs reached full capacity. The copious rainfall in the region resulted in Vidarbha receiving nearly 1100mm of precipitation, a surplus of over 17%. The bountiful monsoon has delighted the agricultural sector, with the arrival of a bumper Kharif crop anticipated.

Weather forecasting officials stated that the region is currently receiving easterly winds, and as a result, temperatures are expected to be warmer during the day, while the winter chill may not be felt yet.

"Until northerly winds start blowing, the region won't experience cold winds. As of now, there is no active weather system over the region," officials remarked.

The regional meteorological centre (RMC) also withdrew the yellow alert for Vidarbha. "As of Oct 15, the chances of rain over the region are minimal," officials said.

Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal, and Wardha received above normal rains, while the rest of the districts reported normal figures.
